Work at Height specialist Planet Platforms has won the e-business category in this year’s ‘first’ Wakefield District Business Awards.

In the second year, the awards follow on from 2006’s successful inaugural ceremony that built on Wakefield’s achievement of being named Britain’s ‘Best Small City for Business’ (OMIS Research 2006).

The e-Business Award was sponsored by Handelsbanken and stood for the recognition of a business that has implemented new technologies to change the way they do business, increasing sales and efficiency and improving the overall performance of their organization. Winners Planet Platforms entered the category following the successful progression of their website, e-commerce initiatives and viral marketing campaigns.

Peter Ellis, director at Planet Platforms expressed his delight at winning; “It’s not customary for companies in our industry to use technology for business development. It is widely used for product development but we wanted to go one step further and implement technology into our overall business growth strategy. Winning this category is a recognition of all the hard work we’ve put in to make this a reality.”

Some of this year’s other sponsors included Chadwick Lawrence – sponsors of the New Business Award, HARIBO who sponsored of the Innovation in Business Award, and Barclays – sponsors of the Community Enterprise Award.

The Awards culminated in a spectacular gala dinner and presentation ceremony at the Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield on 22nd November 2007.
