Two Become One

Using two sets of steps placed a few metres apart to access two specific places just had to be done more efficiently. Climbing down one set to then climb up another was doubling the effort needed.

This was the very task faced by East Midland engineers when testing the traction stock within their fleet. Coupling up to a power supply the engineers then had to descend one set of steps to then climb another to access the cab. After performing the test, this process had to be repeated several times.

The solution was simple and achieved using Planet Platforms new 1m wide Spandeck.

By linking two staircase units together with the 1m deck the design team at Planet were able to create an uninterrupted 4.5m run between the two work areas.

Now not only is the job quicker and performed more efficiently but it comes with additional safety.
