The installation of new floodlights at a leading Premiership football ground brought with it access and work at height issues. Periodic maintenance would be required but there was no safe means of getting to these floodlights.
The key requirement was that the system had to be lightweight as anything heavy would overload the stadium roof and obviously the solution has to be safe for maintenance personnel to use.
With limited lightweight options on the market Planet Platforms were approached to see if their Spandeck system would suit the project requirements.
Working with Shawton Engineering Ltd, the CAD team at Planet produced plans for a series of walkways that linked existing access routes to the new areas on the stadium roof.
Behind each goal the Spandeck ran parallel to the dead ball line then spurred off to access the two banks of floodlights.
Then running the entire length of the main stand the Spandecks enabled access to the primary set of floodlights.
In total over three hundred linear metres of Spandeck and nearly a mile of handrail were needed to complete the project.
